BROXBURN Athletic capped a stunning season with promotion to junior football’s top flight on Saturday afternoon.
The West Lothian side dumped Penicuik 2-0 to ensure promotion to the East Region Super League although Sauchie, with three games to play, can still take the Premier League flag.
Last season the Albyn Park outfit missed out on promotion by a single point so there were scenes of great joy after the final whistle on Saturday.
Club coach Steve Pittman was in tears as he told reporters: ‘‘This is a terrific day for Broxburn and all the fans, players, and everyone associated with the club.
‘‘Everyone has worked their socks off for this and we’ll celebrate. If luck goes out way we might even be champions!’’
Pittman Snr was even more delighted that his teenage son, Scott, clinched the three vital points with his team’s second goal of the game 10 minutes fromtime.
‘‘It was good to get a goal,’’ said the young scorer, ‘‘but to be honest no-one cared who scored as long as we did!’
