Fencers from Linlithgow Academy triumphed in a
recent UK competition.

S6 pupil Maya Kamat and Callum Mackay, who left the Academy at the summer, clinched silver medals as part of the Scottish team at the 2013 UK School Games.

They, along with S5 pupils Ross Manson and Jack Douglas had been selected to represent Scotland in the Games at Sheffield last month, sponsored annually by supermarket Sainsbury’s.

In total, the Scottish team clinched five silver team medals at the competition.

The four Academy fencers were lucky to be mentored by Olympic fencer Anna Bentley who took part in the woman’s foil event in the 2012 Games in London.

They are taught fencing at the Academy by Maths teacher Graeme de St Croix, who also runs the after-school fencing club, the Wallace Fencing Academy.

A spokesman for the 2013 School Games said: “The competition seeks to create an inspirational and motivational setting for top athletes and to encourage more young people to take part and succeed in sport.”
