National indoor bowls league action returns to the calendar this weekend and it heralds a major confrontation for Division 1C leaders Balbardie with the Bathgate based club heading across the Forth to tackle chief rivals Headwell.
Balbardie are undefeated and attempting to make it four wins in a row but Headwell are also undefeated although having played one game less making Saturday’s head-to-head of great relevance to the promotion prospects of both teams.
The visitors have a great pre-match boost with the news from team manager Bill Black that Graeme Byrne, Walter McDougall and Jimmy Mallon make a return to the Balbardie line up.
Alister Wilson (Bridgeness), Andy Jenkins and Craig Kirkwood return to the reserve bench and the re-shuffled line up reads: Rink 1 - Graeme Keery, Davie Ross, Diz Drysdale, Graeme Byrne; Rink 2 - Peter Lynch, Andy Forrest, Mark Bonar, Sandy McDougall; Rink 3 - Ian Drsydale, Jim Speirs, Jimmy Mallon, Walter McDougall; Rink 4 - Lawson Trotter, John Gilogley, Gary Orr, Ewan Shearer.
West Lothian lost away to Blantyre in their previous match but the defending champions of the Premier League title are expected to return to winning ways with home advantage over Inverclyde.
Balbardie ladies are without a win in the A section of the Premier League but have a chance to put that to rights with home advantage against Aberdeen while West Lothian travel to Dundee in Division 1B.
Calum Logan hoped to blaze the trail that saw him capture the indoor bowls 2010/11 junior singles title but failed to produce his normal sparkle. Logan embarked on his campaign with high expectations but saw them dashed by an exit in the prelim round, slumping to a 21-14 defeat from Jonathan Duff.
