WITH Wimbledon just around the corner local tennis aces have made it into the National County Cup Finals this weekend.

Sammy Ralston (Springfield Primary), and Calum and Lewis Bowmaker (Bo’ness Public) from Linlithgow Tennis Club represented the East of Scotland in Stage 1 of the U10 County Cup held in Carlisle last weekend.

The team faced up to five other players from each county in Scotland (North, South and West), Northumberland and Cumbria and the matches consisted of three singles and a doubles tie.

The local team won their initial group and played South of Scotland in the semi-finals, winning in a doubles tie-break after being tied 2-2 in matches. They played Cumbria in the final and again tied 2-2 in matches.

Another exciting tie-break shoot-out was played with Sammy and Calum emerging victorious. The boys now progress to Bolton Arena to play in the national finals against seven other teams from English counties.
