Young people in Linlithgow have created a dramatic stir by winning a prestigious national award.

LAMP (Linlithgow Amateur Productions) Children’s Theatre are the only group in Scotland to be given the Utopia Costume Youth Award this year from the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA).

The Utopia Costume Youth Award is given to the youth group or society in Scotland which has made a significant impact in their community. The local thespians, who are currently working on their production of The Wizard of Oz, were delighted.

Val Withnell of LAMP said: “This well deserved award is due to the inspirational production team of Calum Campbell, Eddie McLennan and Hayley Fleming, the enthusiasm of the many parents and LAMP helpers and the talents of the youngsters on stage.

“The popularity of this group is evident in the numbers of children eager to join and all agree that rehearsals are such fun, and give the youngsters a sound introduction to the world of the stage.”

Elizabeth Donald, the regional NODA representative, said: “It is super, and a great feather in my cap being the representative for the area.”
