Sainsbury’s is offering motorists a break from relentless fuel prices rises with a new promotion offering 10p off every litre at its filling stations.

The retailer has announced the offer just a day after it and the other big four supermarkets were criticised for having raised prices almost every day for the last three months.

From May 23 until May 28 customers shopping for groceries in store or online will be given a voucher to claim the fuel discount.

Qualifying purchases

To qualify customers must spend at least £60 on shopping by Tuesday May 28 but this excludes spending on alcohol, fuel, tobacco, baby formula, gift cards, medicines, stamps, mobile phone vouchers, travel money, charity payments and energy payments.

The voucher is then valid for the next 14 days and can be used at any of Sainsbury’s 306 filling stations around the country.

It is valid for purchases of petrol or diesel up to a maximum of 100 litres in one transaction.

Nectar points boost

The fuel offer comes at the same time as a promotion offering Nectar Card holders an extra 150 points on every purchase worth more than £1.

Mark Given, director of marketing at Sainsbury’s, said: “We’re really excited to celebrate our 150th birthday with customers this week and wanted to give them their very own birthday treat.

“We’ve been helping our customers live well for less for the past 150 years and what better way to celebrate than to provide an extra boost to shoppers’ Nectar point balances during the bank holiday weekend and enable them to save money when they fill up.”
