Grangemouth High School hosts first in-person prizegiving in four years

Pupils, parents and carers and guests were among those to gather at the school for the ceremony earlier this month, which celebrated young people, the school and the wider community.

Special guest for the evening was former pupil and now Blue Peter presenter Abby Cook.

In his speech, Brian Millar, headteacher spoke of resilience – the “vital and intangible skill” – which “we aim to develop within every young person in Grangemouth High”.

He said: “Resilience is not a trait that we are born with; it’s a skill that can be developed and strengthened over time.”

Mr Millar said many of the pupils had embraced this idea and because of this they were gathered to celebrate their success.

He continued: “Let’s face challenges head-on, learn from our failures and never give up on our dreams. With resilience, we can overcome any obstacle and achieve greatness. To you, our young people, resilience, determination and education is the true key to success.

“This is why we are all gathered here today to encourage you to continue seeking academic excellence and wider achievement opportunities. It is therefore an obligation of each and every one of you to strive for and be the best you can be. Aim to take every opportunity that comes your way, to fulfil your hopes and ambitions and leave Grangemouth High ready for life beyond school – education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”

He added: “I would like to congratulate our young people on their achievements this past year, and take this opportunity to thank staff, parents, carers and our wider community for the support and dedication they give to our young people on a daily basis.”

This year’s School Dux was Lucy Hume. Lucy achieved A grades in all five of her Highers – English, Maths, Chemistry, Modern Studies and Business Management. Bethany Spowart received the Proxime Accessit Salver.
