Cold water baths and meditation in Bo’ness could help your wellbeing: Good Vibes Meditation offers support
For Susan Gilbert, looking after the health and wellbeing of others was very much at the forefront of her mind when she launched her business Good Vibes Meditation in Bo’ness.
She has been on her own journey facing anxiety, stress and sleep deprivation and is now reclaiming her life, while helping others to reclaim theirs too.
Cold water therapy, meditation, children’s mindfulness sessions and beach meditations are just some the ways that Susan is helping people to regain their confidence and build a better mental outlook for the future.
For anxiety, depression and stress
Cold water therapy can be beneficial, says Susan.
A client’s session begins with meditation and breathing exercises, before sitting in a cold water bath for about three minutes.
Susan explains: “If I could take a picture of someone before and after, the difference can be like night and day. It can be like a natural antidepressant, with people feeling alive, happy and lighter.”
Susan recommends the session to help with anxiety, depression and stress.
Guided meditation and men’s mental health
Susan is passionate about men’s mental health and says she is seeing more male clients for mental wellbeing, rather than aches and pains.
Good Vibes Meditation, which is based on South Street, also provides guided meditation in which, Susan says: “Trauma can come to the surface, which people don’t realise is tucked deep down. It’s all about retraining the brain and people do get release from it.”
Young people can take techniques into adulthood
Young people are supported too, with one-to-one sessions, while their parent sits with them. Susan uses breathing exercises and mindfulness techniques.
While a child may think it’s an hour of fun, Susan says she can help with issues such as anger, anxiety and confidence, exams stress or maybe bullying.
“It’s simple, effective and fun techniques, and they can take those into adulthood. The child doesn’t need to talk, I can use pen to paper, but it is very effective techniques that they can remember,” she added.
Meditating by a beach
And if meditating by a beach sounds a wonderful, calming experience then Susan’s Sunday and Thursday sessions at South Queensferry could be for you.
With a firepit and a cup of tea, people just sit and talk.
Susan says: “Everybody that comes along says it’s like a therapy session. You’re outdoors and people can come on their own, it’s so lovely.
“The location is secluded, it is very beautiful. It’s a nice little community.”
She adds: “I spend time with clients after sessions if they want to talk. I make that point as many people come to me with mental health issues or things that are going on in their life.
“I’ve found something that I love doing and helping people too.”
