KIRKLISTON has picked their Queen for 2013 and she can hardly wait!
Megan Hughes is the lucky girl who will wear the crown on Saturday, June 8, Kirkliston’s best day of the year. The 11-year-old is still getting over her surprise at being chosen for the top role.
She said: “I was at the draw with my mum, my little sister and friends, and when the current Gala Queen called out my name, me and my mum just looked at each other because we were really shocked!”
The P7 pupil at Kirkliston Primary is already getting organised adding: “I’ve been looking on the internet for a dress, but I know what I want to do with my hair - it’s going to be a mermaid braid with spiral curls - an idea I got from my mum’s friend who’s a hairdresser.
“I’m not sure about the dress but I’d like something that’s not too flouncy with some sparkles.”
Excited Megan added: “I think my favourite bits will be walking in the parade and getting crowned. Also seeing all my friends dressed up, being together and feeling very honoured to be the Gala Queen.”
Megan’s little sister Emily (5) will also be in the parade as a Fairy and the pair are hoping to decorate their home at Buie Rigg in pink and red lovehearts in their chosen theme, ‘Loveheart Land’. Her wee brother Dean (3) will also be in the parade along with his nursery.
In her spare time, Megan loves dancing and goes to classes at JHM Dance Academy every week, doing ballet and modern.
The Crowner at the Gala Day will be Mrs Margaret Brechin, after she was nominated for her outstanding contribution to the village, due to involvement in the Dorcas Lunch Club, Queensferry Care in the Community, Kirkliston Community Council and Sunday School, to name just a few.
