There’s no telling exactly when this ancient picture of Bo’ness was taken - but it clearly wasn’t in recent decades, maybe even centuries!
There’s almost certainly no-one alive today who can remember this scene, masted sailing ships in the dock, countless factory chimneys (but precious little smoke) and what looks like a joinery business in the middle foreground.
The photographer was clearly stationed on the ground behind Ballantine’s Foundry for this evocative shot.
The only landmarks recogniseable today are the gaso-meter and the Ochil Hills in the background!
It’s a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era - a time when Bo’ness was a hive of industry - but there are absolutely no details appended by way of indicating when the picture was taken.
