For podiatrist Douglas Brodie, who runs The Foot Store in Falkirk, it was his first time taking on the gruelling 23 mile route for charity. His friend Lyn Donaldson, a former Miss Falkirk Herald, has taken part before.

This time, they joined forces, putting their love of all things fitness to a very good cause, raising money for the hospice in Denny, and finishing the challenge in five and a half hours, which put them amongst the earlier finishers.

Douglas said: “It was a great experience even although it rained for most of it; the event is well organised and fantastic amount of support on the way. We would like to thank all of our friends, family and clients for all of their kind donations to such a good local cause.”

It’s not Douglas’s first time going the extra mile. He said: “I qualified as a podiatrist 20 years ago and specialise in sports podiatry, with a background as an endurance athlete. I once ran 30 miles in a wetsuit as part of a race!”

Lyn and Douglas, who are both 52, have known one another for 40 years. Lyn works at Bannatyne’s, and Douglas is also a qualified fitness instructor and triathlon coach.
