A bumper £100,000 has been pledged to help fund a nine-hole golf course on the outskirts of Linlithgow.

The news was broken earlier this week that the six-figure sum had been realised from round three of the Commonwealth Games Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund.

It was one of four projects in West Lothian to win a total of £340,000 in funding.

The Stephen Gallacher Foundation has indicated it is in discussions to create a second golf course at Kingsfield Golf Centre, near Philpstoun, to complement the popular existing nine-hole course there.

Total cost of the project is estimated at £349,000.

Stephen Gallacher, who is 37th in the world rankings, is this week competing in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Royal Aberdeen Golf Course.

No-one from his management team was available for comment as the Journal and Gazette went to press yesterday (Thursday).

Today the foundation is running an open competition for teenage golfers at Linlithgow Golf Course.
