A CALL for Bo’ness to have its own outdoor skatepark has attracted nearly 700 supporters in just two-and-a-half weeks.
Mum-of-two Kay Sherratt (48), a childminder, has been overwhelmed by the response to her Facebook petition.
She and partner Tony Christie (49) take son Brad (10) to existing facilities in Falkirk, Edinburgh and elsewhere.
But they want to set up something on their doorstep, with ramps and half pipes, for skateboards, scooters, BMXs and inline skaters.
By Wednesday the petition, set up to gauge initial interest, had attracted 697 ‘likes’.
No location is currently proposed, but Kay has had several people expressing interest in forming a committee to progress the idea.
She was set to get fundraising tips from Falkirk Environment Trust in the next few days, before arranging a first meeting.
Said Kay: “It’s amazing, the amount of people that have come forward, asking if we need any help to set it up.
“A lot of people have been in contact. The petition’s been liked and shared among their friends too.”
On the benefits she said: “It would save having to travel out of the town and it would give the kids their own skatepark in Bo’ness, giving them something to do rather than hanging about the streets.”
And she believes they would look after it like the popular, ‘spotless’ one in Falkirk.
“The more likes and shares, the better, showing how many people would like it to happen.
“I know Kirkliston and Winchburgh have one. They are quite small places and I don’t know why Bo’ness shouldn’t have one.”
