Queensferry’s Allan Smith is hoping to strike gold when he competes in the high jump at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Allan (21) is one of three athletes who will represent Scotland in the high jump event.
The former St Margaret’s Primary and St Augustine’s pupil, said: ‘‘I’m really looking forward to competing at Hampden again but it will be with a mixture of emotions – nerves, courage, pride, excitement and trepidation.
‘‘The new surface is fast and springy but really difficult to control. The Glasgow weather could play a part in things too as no-one jumps well in the wind and rain.
‘‘However, I’m fit and raring to go but my performances have still to reach their peak this season.
‘‘I don’t want to disappoint, or be disappointed, in Glasgow as I feel I have some big jumps in me. I’d love to be able to deliver on home soil.’’
Allan will compete in the high jump qualifying heat at Hampden from 10am on Monday, July 28. If successful, he will compete in the final on Wednesday, July 30.
