An annual rite of passage for kids

It’s a nerve-wracking time for the mums and their little ones when the offspring first head off to school.

Watching your toddler shuffle across the playground with a mixture of trepidation, fear and excitement is an annual rite of passage which never changes down the years.

However, judging by the expressions on the faces of this year’s intake they (with a few exceptions) seem happy enough with their new situation.

More than 50 years on, I can still vividly remember my first day at primary school - and many others after that - and not all of them with pleasure it has to be said.

I expect the same will be true for the kids pictured in our P1 supplement in this issue.
