Nippers Nursery in Dalmeny will be waving goodbye to nursery assistant Ashleigh Fleming when she sets off on a trip of a lifetime to Tanzania to work in a primary school.

Ashleigh, 21, will spend the month of May 2014 at a school in Arusha in northern Tanzania where she will work with local children.

Former Queensferry High School pupil Ashleigh said: ‘‘This is going to be a life-changing experience for me. I’m looking forward to the challenge and using the skills I have gained in my role here in Dalmeny to help schoolchildren in Arusha.’’

Ashleigh will not know her placement school until nearer her departure date, when organisers, Projects Abroad, will allocate her a school.

Janice Robertson, manager at Nippers Nursery said: “We are immensely proud of Ashleigh and are delighted to be helping her achieve her ambition.”

Staff and parents at the nursery are planning to stage a series of fundraising events to help Ashleigh achieve her mission, including a pamper Chef night and a race night.

Ashleigh has already raised more than a quarter of the £3000 sum it will take to travel to Tanzania but she would be delighted to hear from any local organisations which may be able to support her.
