First year pupils from Bo’ness Academy were jumping for joy as they were crowned winners at a cheerleading competition.

The girls may have appeared to be underdogs being the only team entered made up completely of first year pupils, however they soon proved it was not the case and beat off schools from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling.

PE teacher Caroline McIntyre said: “The team spent months learning their routine and we are all so proud to have the shield on display in the school.” This was the first time Bo’ness Academy entered the competition and the school plan to defend their title next year.
