One of the district’s best flower shows was a creative and colourful success again this year – thanks to a scorching summer.
The annual Polmont Horticultural Society show was held in the village’s sports centre last Saturday where enthusiasts showed off hundreds of exhibits.
Bridgend gardeners Michal and Malcolm Muszynski scored the most overall points in the show for vegetables to pick up the Brown Ferguson Memorial Cup.
The brothers from Willowdean, who are regular winners in the West Lothan Gardens Competition, also won the John McLuckie Memorial Cup, John Maitland Memorial Cup and the Joe Woods Memorial Trophy.
James Elliot from Fauldhouse won big too, picking up the Falkirk District Council Trophy, Lindsay Rose Bowl, Ian Alexander Trophy, Newlook Windows Trophy and Jennifer Mitchell Memorial Trophy for his cut flowers.
The Polmont Horticultural Society Trophy was won by John Jack.
The society’s co-ordinator Janet Anderson was full of praise for all the entries.
She said: “It was another great year for our show and we were very pleased with all the amazing entries.
“The standard seems to get better every year; the growing season finished quite early this year due to the good summer. The dahlia’s were absolutely stunning and the exhibits in the handicrafts section were just beautiful.
“The entries from the children who took part were amazing too. Well done to everyone for all their efforts.”
