Bringing Games to the people

When Glasgow’s bid to host this year’s Commonwealth Games was declared the winner several years ago now, one of the remits was to make it an event for the whole of Scotland, not just the city itself.

In the intervening period, we’ve have the announcement that events will be held in several locations across the country, people nationwide have volunteered to become Clydesiders and sales of tickets have been huge,
But the revealing this week of those who will carry the Queen’s Baton as it snakes its way around Scotland before its arrival at Celtic Park is the start of bringing the Games to the people.
We all remember how successful the Olympic Torch relay was and it’s great to hear of the locals who’ll hopefully be doing the same for the Commonwealth Games. Congratulations to them all.
