Young volunteers in the community are being awarded for their efforts and Cameron Wright from Linlithgow is no different having been selected as a baton bearer for the Burgh on Sunday, June 15.

Cameron (18), has recently finished his studies at the Academy and is about to embark on the next leg of his education at St Andrews University where he will be studying computer science.

The young man was nominated by a group of friends and family for his roles in the community, including delivering the Black Bitch magazine, The Star and Garter Trust, Linlithgow Reed Band, the Linlithgow Victoria Halls Trust and the local Community Development Trust.

Quite how Cameron managed the time to participate in the Falkirk Regional Integrated swim team and his Tae Kwon Do training remains a mystery to his friends.

Cameron said: “The nomination came completely out of the blue and I am grateful to everyone who took the time to put my name forward to the organisers. It is a huge honour to be carrying the
baton through my home town and a memory that will be with me for a very long time. This is probably a once-in-a-lifetime event.”

David Tait of the Victoria Halls Trust said: “This is a well-deserved accolade for Cameron who is a worthy bearer of Her Majesty’s Commonwealth message.
