Bo’ness Speed Hillclimb is one of 21 events across the country receiving backing from the latest round of awards from the EventScotland National Funding Programme.
Featuring two days of historic racing and classic cars in the stunning surroundings of the Kinneil Estate, Bo’ness Speed Hillclimb has been awarded £11,650.
This year’s event will be held over the weekend of September 3 and 4 when hundreds of classic motorsport enthusiasts will descend on Kinneil Estate.
Administered by EventScotland, The National Funding Programme was established to enable the development of events taking place outwith Edinburgh and Glasgow with the aim of driving domestic tourism and increasing economic impact for communities.
Thanks to the funding, the organisers will now be in a position to further develop by extending and enhancing their programmes in order to increase attendance figures and improve the overall spectator experience.
Now in its ninth year, Bo’ness Speed Hillclimb is firmly established on the UK motorsport scene and continues to grow in stature and popularity each year.
Earlier this summer, the event won the prestigious 2016 Ford-sponsored Jim Clark Memorial Award by The Association of Scottish Motoring Writers. For this autumn’s event, the emphasis will be on action and participation.
The classic car show element of previous years’ events is being developed and it has been renamed the Motoring Heritage Weekend.
Kenny Baird, chairman of Bo’ness Speed Hillclimb and Motoring Heritage Weekend, said: ‘‘Bo’ness is Scotland’s oldest racing venue and our annual event – which is an extremely popular regional calendar highlight – is a fantastic celebration of our motoring heritage.
“We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded this funding as it will help ensure the Hillclimb and Motoring Heritage Weekend is our biggest and best yet.”
Liz Buchanan, VisitScotland regional partnerships director, said: “I’m delighted this great event has been selected as a recipient in the latest round of EventScotland’s national funding programme.
“I’m sure the financial boost combined with the fantastic programme planned will ensure it is a superb success.
“These awards provide invaluable support by helping them create an even more attractive proposition to attract increased attendance.’’
