This year’s Chief Lady Zarina Mirza is desparately hoping to be on the Gala Day stage despite breaking her ankle on Monday.
Zarina (12) of Royal Terrace was on a school trip with Low Port Primary and chipped her ankle bone when she fell over skating. The accident put her in surgery on Wednesday, but she was hoping she would recover enough to hobble up the steps this weekend.
Mum Jill said: “Zarina is really excited and we have decorated our garden with a beach holiday theme. We have everything organised, so hopefully she will be able to make it to the ceremony. It’s a shame this happened this week, but it can’t be helped. She’s enjoyed preparing for the day and being with Ruby who she used to go to Guides with, so hopefully she will make it.”
Jill, dad Max and brother Samuel (9), will be pulling out all the stops to help her hobble through.
