Cops to iron out metal crime

LOCAL police are working hard to tackle the problem of metal thieves across Scotland.

Lothian and Borders Police joined other Scottish forces, SEPA and VOSA at the end of last month for a day of action when eight licensed metal dealers were visited, and 62 vehicles stopped and checked in West Lothian. Earlier this year St Peter’s Church in Linlithgow was a target for metal thieves when they stole lead from the roof.

Sergeant Scott Sneddon said: “I would like to send a very strong message to anyone involved in metal theft in the area that this will not be tolerated by Lothian and Borders Police. The disruption caused by metal thieves cannot be underestimated, whether it be through lampposts not working, trains being cancelled, or the loss of telephone or internet connections.’’

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131.
