IT IS hoped that alteration work transforming the iconic Sheriff Court building on Linlithgow High Street into a hotel will begin soon after designs were submitted to council planners.
In April 2010 the Journal and Gazette reported that local businessman Jim Hay had bought the property to convert it into exclusive accommodation, complete with 20 boutique-style serviced hotel suites and apartments, and a private function space in the main courtroom.
Jim Hay recently submitted listed building consent to West Lothian Council for internal alterations and is awaiting their decision. Although plans have taken time, Jim has been working closely with conservation officers and Historic Scotland as he retains many of the original court features of the building.
