A man has been charged in connection with a series of housebreakings and car thefts in West Lothian.

In July, two cars – a Nissan Navara and Mercedes Benz – were stolen after break-ins in Bells Burn Avenue and Springfield Road in Linlithgow.

Two further break-ins were reported on September 14 in Armadale where a Kia Sportage was taken from outside a home in Marches Drive.

Inquiries from police in West Lothian and Glasgow led to the Nissan and Kia being recovered and the recovery of heroin worth £17,500 from an address in John Neilson Avenue, Paisley.

A 24-year-old has been arrested and will appear at court on October 26.

Residents are being warned to remain vigilant.

Inspector Drew Elliot said: “We recognise the impact these housebreakings had, not only on the victims, but on the wider community and we’ve been working closely with colleagues in Glasgow as part of this investigation for a number of months now.

“This has resulted in two of the three stolen vehicles being recovered, with inquiries continuing to trace the Mercedes Benz.

“In addition, a large quantity of heroin was also seized before it could make its way onto our streets.

“We are committed to tackling housebreaking and drug crime and would urge our communities to come forward if they wish to report offences of this nature, so we can conduct a thorough and professional investigation.”
