Court closures affect cases

The Scottish Conservatives say court closures have led to cases taking record times to reach a conclusion.

According to the party, more than a third of Sheriff and Justice of the Peace cases exceeded the 26-week target for being dealt with in June – an 11 per cent increase on the same period the previous year.

The figures were revealed following a Parliamentary Question by Central Scotland list MSP Margaret Mitchell, who blamed the SNP-led Scottish Government for the unnaceptable delays in the system.
