Grangemouth offender caught with cannabis after he tried to break up fight

Caught red handed with the drugs, Dean Dewar (31) then admitted to officers he was going to sell them to others.

Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court on Thursday, Dewar had pleaded guilty to possessing the class B drug with intent to supply in Main Street, Redding on April 7.

Rachel Wallace, procurator fiscal depute, said: “It was 5am and the accused had been arrested in relation to an earlier incident. He was searched and police found 140 grams of cannabis in his rucksack.”

The court heard it was Dewar himself who admitted to police he planned to sell the drugs.

Defence solicitor Murray Aitken said Dewar had been trying to split up a fight between other parties when police arrested him and that was when they found the drugs.

Sheriff Christopher Shead said: “He can’t recall where he got it but he was going to sell it.”

Mr Aitken said: “He was going through a particularly bad time and was taking more of the substance than he had been previously. He had separated from his partner and had not seen his son.”

It was stated Dewar had a previous conviction for cultivating cannabis.

Sheriff Shead placed him on a restriction of liberty order to stay in his 50 Newbigging Road, Grangemouth home between 7pm and 7am for the next nine months.
