“Upon arrival, police were met with hostile occupants who stated they didn’t know where the accused was and refused police entry.
“The accused, however, appeared. Officers managed to gain entry, at which time he ran upstairs.
“Police gave chase and as they were running after the accused on the stairway, he threw a hoover from the upstairs landing, directing it at police witnesses.

Defence solicitor Stephen Biggam told the court his client had “mental health issues” and, although the officer wasn’t injured, that Macauley realised he “could’ve done some damage”.
The solicitor also told Sheriff Derek Livingston of how Macauley would be starting work with a new employer if he avoided imprisonment.
Addressing Macauley, Sheriff Livingston said: “It’s fortunate for yourself that you didn’t do any damage with this sort of behaviour.”
