Police urge public to help in the fight against terrorism

The drive is part of an ongoing public consultation, Your View Counts which is running until the middle of April.

The new campaign urges the public to report suspicious activity to help prevent terrorism.

Officer Bryan McKie said: “In the past, lives have been saved and terrorists have been disrupted thanks to the public coming forward with information.

“This campaign urges the public to contact the police about suspicious activity by calling the Anti-Terrorist Hotline or utilising the online reporting form. The campaign will run across radio and digital channels over six weeks, backed by a national and regional media plans.”

The theme of the campaign is ‘ACT – Action Counters Terrorism – Make Nothing Happen’ which police hope will “generate a step-change in equipping communities with the information they need to defeat terrorism”.

Key objectives include: encouraging reporting of suspicious activity to the anti-Terrorist Hotline and to reportonline terrorist and extreme material to the Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit; reinforcing the message that the public have a crucial role to play in remaining alert; reassuring communities that police and intelligence agencies are continually working hard to safeguard the vulnerable and keep people safe from terrorism.
