Police welcome jailing of Falkirk man for 'reprehensible' behaviour online

Martin Thomson was sent to prison for two years at Falkirk Sheriff Court today, and added to the Sex Offenders Register.
The 34-year old was convicted of offences relating to indecent communications.

Hide AdDetective Chief Inspector Richard Banks of the National Child Abuse Investigation Unit, Police Scotland, said: “Thomson's online behaviour was reprehensible with no regard to the young victims.

“He believed that the internet would provide anonymity and allow him to undertake his offending undetected.”
DCI Banks said lockdown increased the risk of offending online.

Hide AdHe added: “restrictions imposed by the pandemic continues, prompting a growth in internet use, creating an increased risk of offending online.
“Sadly, the stay at home guidance may expose children to a greater risk of abuse, whether in a private or virtual space.
"We encourage anyone with concerns about a child at risk of abuse, or a potential victim, to contact police immediately.”
