Sex offender fails to tell courts about new relationship in Grangemouth

Stephen Goddard (30) had been made subject to a sexual offences prevention order which meant he was supposed to tell the authorities whenever he started a relationship with a woman.

However, he had been with a woman for a month before the offence came to light.

Goddard appeared from custody via video link at Falkirk Sheriff Court on Thursday having pleaded guilty to failing to notify the offender management unit of a new relationship he had become involved with in Grangemouth between October 1 and November 25 last year.

Goddard accepted responsibility for the offence and it was stated he did understand he should not have done it.

Sheriff Christopher Shead noted Goddard’s “significant” previous offences and the fact this most recent breach was a “particularly serious example” of his offending, stating only a custodial sentence was appropriate.

Goddard, Flat 59, 2 Blackfriars Street, Edinburgh, was sentenced to eight months in prison.
