VILLAGERS turned out in force at Allison Park amid blue skies last Saturday to welcome Kirkliston’s new Gala Day Queen.

There was a carnival atmosphere to the day as the sun shone after days of rain and there were huge cheers when local lady Alison Bruce crowned young Denise Tulloch.

The new queen was then taken on a tour of the village. accompanied Linlithgow Reed Band, the Stockbridge Pipe Band and the Diamonique Twirlers. Also in the procession were local groups and floats, including Kirkliston Community Church, KSQ Football Club, the Rainbows and Kirkliston Nursery groups. At Allison Park, there was the Cheesetown Olympics for adults, children’s races, music from the Edinburgh Samba School and the JHM dancers.

Earlier in the week, various activities had been staged including, cupcake and cheerleading, a football tournament, family line-dancing, a disco for youngsters and a treasure hunt and barbecue.

Louise McLeod, president of Kirkliston Children’s Gala Day said: “We had a wonderful week, the weather was great for the main event and Allison Park saw a great turnout from villagers. The committee wish to thank everyone for coming along and supporting the events. So far we have received great feedback to the village’s civic week.”
