PUPILS and staff at Dalmeny Primary said farewell to their headteacher Roger Meachem last week after 14 years at the school.
He was presented with a plaque at the school’s Rose Day at Dalmeny Church last week by Reverend David Cameron. Prior to this, staff, parents and pupils had organised a barbecue at the school to mark the occasion, where he was presented with an i-Pad.
A teacher for 35 years, Roger is retiring from the post to start up a private venture “Yet Science” which he aims will take science into primary school classrooms.
A graduate of physics, Roger is keen to see more science subjects taught in primary schools and has at Dalmeny introduced several science-orientated projects into the school’s curriculum.
He said last week: “It is a very sad day for me and I will miss it immensely, I knew every child at the school and their parents and felt I was part of the community.”
Also saying farewell on the last day of term was Ruth Binnington, head of Dalmeny Nursery, who steps down after 15 years.
Roger said of Ruth: “Ruth was an excellent teacher, in our recent HMi report, we gained top marks, achieving four excellents. This is down to Ruth and her team.”
