HISTORY has been made with the election of the first female bailie to the Deacons’ Court of Linlithgow.
Last week, Liz Park, who has served on the ceremonial court for the past 15 years, was chosen to be junior bailie, and is now on course to become the first female Provost.
Liz (52) who lives at Sheriffs Park with husband Tom (55), said: “I didn’t expect this! It’s a privilege to be given the robes and office of junior bailie and it is an honour to have the support of colleagues on the Deacons’ Court. It’s a surreal feeling that you are going down in history. The Deacons’ Court are like my family.
‘‘I’ve still to be updated on my role as junior bailie but it’s a nice feeling to be chosen. Being Provost would be in nine years time, which is way down the line.”
