Readers are being offered a special opportunity to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Forth Road Bridge by applying for discounted tickets to scale the heights of one of its towers next summer.

As part of the celebrations, which are a key event in the Homecoming Scotland 2014 calendar, unique Tower Top Trip tickets are being released to allow members of the public to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

While the bulk of the tickets will go on public sale in coming weeks, the Forth Bridges Festival organisers have announced an exclusive advance offer for people living in the EH and KY postcode areas.

Through a time-limited public ballot 500 tickets will be made available at a cost of £50 each, less than half of the full face value of £120.

The random ballot will open at 10am today (Friday), October 11, and will close at 5pm on Monday, October 21.

Tickets are limited to two per application and successful applicants will be informed of their ballot slot by October 25. Trips will take place every weekend from July 19 to August 23, 2014.
