A project at Blackness Primary School has become an international affair with pupils joining in partnership with a school in North America.

Schools in Falkirk had been asked if they wanted to take part in the project about John Muir and his work.

The pupils were inspired to join in, as the newly opened John Muir Way passes close to their school.

Blackness was paired with John Muir Elementary School in Wisconsin and pupils from both schools have been designing postcards related to the life and work of the great conservationist.

Photographs were e-mailed between the schools and the postcards have been displayed in the partner schools. Blackness has already received postcards from John Muir Elementary and they have been displayed for all to see. They now have postcards ready to post to America.

Principal teacher Jennifer Smith said: “Pupils at Blackness have enjoyed taking part in the project and are looking forward to continuing the link with the pupils of John Muir Elementary.

“Staff at both schools are keen to develop the link further by communicating throughout the school year in various ways.”

Ian Edwards of Falkirk Council was key to organising the project and has visited Blackness to see the progress of the project.
