Residents urged to take pride by Falkirk Council in fight against litter

People are being urged to support Falkirk Council’s new litter strategy as the council says it can’t tackle the problem on its own.

The council spends £2 million every year tackling litter and says this money could be better spent on other services at a time when all budgets are stretched.

The new strategy insists that everyone must play their part in delivering the strategy and that the emphasis must change from “cleaning up the mess” to “preventing the mess in the first place”.

With this in mind, the council’s waste services team have now set up a new Facebook page dedicated to tackling litter, dog fouling and fly-tipping, which it is encouraging people to visit.

You can view the page, at www.facebook.com/TakePrideinFalkirk .

The page highlights the work of many local groups that are already hard at work to tackle the blight of litter on their communities.

The strategy promises that the council will offer these groups guidance and use its resources to help where it can.
