Ex threatens '˜I don't mind doing a sentence for you'

Stephen Kennedy (38) told his former partner he hoped she was still paying her insurance because she was “in for a shock”, adding he did not mind “doing a sentence” for the things he was going to do to her.

He then signed off with the chilling statement “I’ll see you when I see you”.

Appearing from custody at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday, Kennedy had previously pled guilty to sending threatening text messages and making abusive phone calls at Roman Drive, Camelon on January 28 and 29.

Procurator fiscal depute Samantha Brown said: “The accused and the complainer were in a relationship for just under two years but had split up in May 2015. The complainer received text messages from an unknown number, but she knew the messages were sent from the accused.

“One particular message stated ‘I hope you’re still paying your insurance because you’re in for shock’. She felt threatened by the message and then noticed three missed calls on her mobile phone.

“She received an answer machine message on her landline phone from the accused which stated ‘See the messages I’ve been sending you, you can show the police if you want because I don’t mind doing a sentence for what I’m going to do to you’.

“I’ll see you when I see you.”

Police were contacted and Kennedy was traced by officers, but only after he had sent the complainer more threatening texts and calls.

The court heard Kennedy had taken last year’s break-up quite badly and had started taking valium to cope.

Kennedy’s solicitor said: “He was hoping the relationship would continue, but the complainer took a different view and it came to an end. This took him back down the slippery slope to valium.

“The course of conduct he engaged in is partly due to a combination of his emotional downward spiral and valium.”

Kennedy, who was remanded in custody for a separate case at Airdrie Sheriff Court, has now moved away from the area where his ex partner lives.

Sheriff Linda Smith took Kennedy’s previous offending into account when she sentenced him to six months in prison.

She also put a non-harrassment order in place for 12 months forbidding Kennedy, 4 Burnfoot Road, Airdrie, to contact his former partner in any way.
