Falkirk Herald Voice star still making himself heard

The Larbert student with the amazing deep voice added it was winning The Falkirk Herald competition of the same name in 2011 which encouraged him to give the TV show a try.

His appearance on the popular Saturday evening show, when he sang This Ole House, proved popular with the studio audience – and the public.

But unfortunately the four judges, Ricky Wilson, Boy George, Paloma Faith and Will.i.am, who sit with their backs to the singers during performances, failed to select him for their teams.

But Colet said all were very supportive in their comments afterwards.

He said: “It was a fantastic experience. I am a little disappointed not to go through but I’m determined to keep going and learn from this.

“All of the judges were very positive and the entire backstage crew were amazing and looked after us so well.”

He didn’t say who he would have liked as a mentor but said he was disappointed that Sir Tom Jones was no longer with the show.

With him at the recording in Manchester were parents, Jey and Aruna, and sister Annette (15), a Larbert High pupil.

They all perform together in a gospel quartet, The Sunbeam Singers.

Colet added: “It was my dad who encouraged me to enter The Falkirk Herald Voice competition and winning that gave me the confidence to do this one. Again it was his idea to enter and I went through numerous auditions. It’s said that 40,000 people entered so getting on the show  itself was an achievement.”

Now he plans to concentrate on his final biomedical engineering exams at Glasgow University before deciding on his future.

But he is determined never to stop singing and making his voice heard.
