The Ferry Fair received a welcome boost this week after an annual memorial dinner raised a substantial £3000 for the event.
The dinner is held in honour of a former committee member and long standing supporter of the Fair, Jim Liddell, who passed away in February 2006 aged 62.
Martha Maxwell (11), who attends St Margaret’s Primary School in P7, is this year’s Ferry Fair Queen and was delighted to receive the cheque on behalf of the committee.
The proceeds of last year’s dinner held in the Masonic Hall, courtesy of Lodge St Margaret No 548, takes the total amount of donations over the years from the dinners to nearly £44,000. David Steel, chairman of the Ferry Fair, said: “The Ferry Fair is delighted to receive such a significant amount of money and we are very grateful to all of those who have contributed to these events over the years.”
The 2017 dinner on May 26 is already a sell-out and will be the 12th and final event to be organised by Derek Milne, chairman of the memorial fund, David Steel and treasurer Robert Harris.
David added: “It is the intention that the event will continue as a small group of indviduals has already indicated their willingness to take this forward.”
The 2017 Fair will run from August 6-13.
The main event takes place on Saturday, August 12 where the Queen will be crowned at noon.
