TO CELEBRATE the start of the season for Linlithgow Canal Centre there will be a free open day on Sunday, March 24.
It will the first time the Linlithgow Union Canal Society have put on this event, letting everyone preview what’s on offer for the community. There will be something for all ages, with free taster trips on the open boat Victoria with a fantastic view of the town, and short trips on St Magdalene, en route to the Avon Aqueduct. There will also be the chance to experience the self drive Leamington, which can take up to 12 passengers, and is available for half or full day hire.
Kids can try their hand at fender rope tying, after they watch the experts do the demonstration - an essential skill designed to prevent damage to berthing boats. The local kayak club may also be on hand to show how fun the canal can be.
Come along, take a look round and have some fun. There is an education room that can be used for school groups and the boats and premises can be used for kids’ parties and events or weddings with a difference.
For food and refreshments, there will be burger rolls on the BBQ, and the tea room, as well as Scotland’s only canal museum, will also be open to visitors.
As an added bonus, those who turn up will get a 10 per cent discount on any boat trip or hire before April 28 this year.
The open day will take off at the Canal Basin on Sunday, March 24, from 1-4.30pm. The 2013 season officially starts on Saturday, March 30, between 1.30pm and 5pm every weekend until the end of September.
