POLICE in Queensferry are appealing for information after a fire raising incident in the town on Monday night.

The incident in which a garage door and its contents were destroyed took place at Somerville Gardens in the Scotstoun area of the town just after midnight.

It is believed a recycling bin was set alight and the flames spread to the garage door and the roof of the building.

A man was caught on CCTV standing close to the scene for some 20 minutes and police are now hoping that the recording can lead to the culprit being caught.

Debbie Sebastian, whose property was the target, said this week: “This appears to be a deliberate fire. The man was caught on a neighbour’s CCTV and hung around the area for 20 minutes.

‘‘He did not seem to bother that people’s security lights were going on and off as he passed their homes.

Mrs Sebastian added: “The garage door was made of fibreglass and caught fire which spread to the roof. Everything inside is either melted or black with smoke.”

Carrie, who lives with husband Andrew and youngsters Jack and Isla, said: “We were first alerted when we saw the flames lick up on to the roof, we ran out and used the garden hose on the fire until the fire brigade arrived.”

The man is described as being tall and possibly wearing a grey hooded top.

If anyone can help police with their enquiries, they should call Queensferry Police Station on 0131 331 1798
