Great-grandad Jimmy Bryant, (80), of Drumpark Avenue, Bo’ness, recently realised a childhood dream after family members conspired to arrange a private visit to the Spitfire memorial in Grangemouth.
The 80th birthday treat for the aviation enthusiast was organised by Jimmy’s wife Nan, who then roped in other family members to help with the surprise visit.
Falkirk Council Provost’s office was contacted and arrangements were made for the security gate to be opened allowing Jimmy to get up close to the memorial for some family pictures. Four generations turned up on the day, the youngest being his great-grand-daughter Robynn (3).
Jimmy said: “ I was amazed because originally I was heading to Asda to do the shopping with my wife. I’ve been an aviation lover for over 40-years and can still remember passing the aerodrome as a boy, looking over the fences at the Spitfires and Hurricanes lined up on the runways.”
