One of the UK’s largest DIY retailers has finally announced the closure date for their Linlithgow store.
Staff had expressed concerns that they were being kept in the dark over Homebase’s plans for them when the branch finally locks it’s doors for the last time.
The company have now announced that Saturday,April 25 will be their final trading day in the Burgh.
Rumours have been circulating locally suggesting that B&M may be moving into the vacant unit while Marks and Spencer open a food unit within the premises currently occupied by the B&M store.
Approaches to both companies suggest that the rumours are just that, with M&S denying that they are opening within Linlithgow.
A spokeswoman for Homebase told us: “Following a consultation, Homebase can confirm that it’s store in Linlithgow will close on saturday, April 25.
“Discussions are being held with colleagues to find alternative employment in other Homebase and Argos stores.”
A member of store staff who wished to remain anonymous said: “We’ve been told very little so far and any ‘discussions’ have been restricted to the fact the store is closing.
“Many staff fear that we will now have to travel much further afield to find work, and that’s only if vacancies are available.”
