This year is a very special one for Girlguiding and Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from all over the country descended on Falkirk last weekend for a massive celebration.
For 2016 is the Senior Section’s centenary year – known in this country as The Scottish Senior Section Spectacular – and the Forth Valley County organised Picnic in the Park for all sections in Callendar Park last Sunday.
Around 600 Girlguiding members were in attendance, aged from the young to the young at heart.
To mark the milestone year Girlguiding Scotland produced a Senior Section Spectacular Challenge Badge for all sections to earn commemorative badges, which includes the elements of Walk, Run, Fun encouraging Units to take their girls outside on a walk, run or hike.
Polmont District Commissioner Shona Mitchell said: “To work towards the challenge the Rainbows and Brownies followed a Bunny Trail through the woods to find bunnies with numbers associated with the Senior Section on them.
“Some Guides and Senior Section girls walked from the Falkirk Wheel, Polmont and Linlithgow along the canal into Callendar Park, or walked home along the canal and others did one of the longer trails within Callendar Park.
“All sections then sat down together for a picnic, a bit of relaxing time, some chatting with old and new friends and then finished off with some campfire songs.
“One Brownie completed her Promise in front of the big crowd and a badge design competition was held and won by a Guide. Forth Valley County then commissioned the Picnic in the Park badge and it was given to all those who attended.
“It was beautiful day enjoyed by all. A huge thank you to all who came along to make the day a success and a special thank you to the organisers.”
