The biggest day in the South Queensferry calender takes place this weekend when all eyes will be on the Queen and the Gracious Lady.
Saturday’s crowning ceremony is the highlight of the 80th Ferry Fair following a week of celebrations.
The woman who has the responsibility of crowning Queen Martha Maxwell is incredibly proud to be doing the honours.
Jean Meldrum has been a resident of South Queensferry for all her 69 years and loves everything about the Ferry.
The former distillery machinist could hardly believe she had been nominated for the role, let alone lucky enough to be drawn as this year’s Gracious Lady.
She said: “It was more than a shock. I had no idea I was nominated so it was a lovely surprise when I discovered I would be involved with the fair this year.”
This week Jean has been rehearsing along with the rest of the court ensuring everyone knows what to do on the big day.
She said: “Saturday will be hectic but I am sure it will be very enjoyable.”
Jean will be picked up at 10am before joining the parade through the town and her day ends with the crowning of Queen-elect Martha.
The full Meldrum clan consisting of husband Andrew, daughters Christine and Ann and grandchildren Rebecca, Jessica and Leo will be there on the day to watch the ceremony.
Jean said: “I am very thankful to the people of the town for their well-wishing and I hope that everyone has a great day.”
