MORE than 100 civilian jobs could be lost when the Ministry of Defence closes its Army Headquarters at Craigiehall.
Armed Forces minister Nick Harvey revealed this week there will be 103 jobs lost as part of the restructuring of regional divisions across the UK and the setting up of a new headquarters support command at Aldershot in Hampshire.
The Craigiehall closure was first announced in the summer as part of the Strategic Defence Review along with plans to close both Redford and Dreghorn Barracks in Edinburgh.
But Edinburgh West MP Mike Crockart, who has campaigned against the closures, said he does not believe Mr Harvey’s statement is the final word on the site’s future.
He said: I’m still making a strong case that what has been decided previously doesn’t make any sense and they should think again.”
*Around 42,000 MoD civilian and armed forces jobs are to be cut by 2015 as defence spending falls by eight per cent over the next four years.
