Next month the Star and Garter Hotel welcomes Edinburgh based comic Keara Murphy to Linlithgow.
On July 8, the Irish-Glaswegian funny-woman will bring her new show, Keara Murphy’s Law – An Uplifting Show About Failure, to the Royal Burgh.
The two hour stage-show which includes stand-up, character comedy, sketches, special guests and audience participation, will see Keara look back over her eventful life to find the upside to the negatives that have blighted her.
With plenty of experiences from an oppressive convent school education, a large lovable dysfunctional Irish Catholic family, bouts of clinical depression, relationship disasters and many other life challenges that compelled her to take up stand-up comedy in the first place, the new show will certainly have something for everyone.
Keara said: “I am looking at all the epic failures in my life, of which there are many. But I will look at the upsides too in order to inspire my audience with the pleasant thought that things may not be as bad as they seem.
“The idea is to throw a positive spin on all my disastrous life stories in order to give my audience some kind of hope, however small that hope may be.
“It’s a risky move, I know, as I have always depended on the negatives for laughs, but this year I want to experiment with happiness in comedy and see where that might lead.”
Keara has tasted success in her other ventures including her BBC Radio Scotland sitcom, Mistress MacKenzie and Friends and being presenter of The Secret Sex Life of Robert Burns – which was featured on BBC Radio 4’s Pick of the Week and later adapted by her for a live sold-out show at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in January 2016.
