Kelly Stokes (25), a pricing analyst from Bo’ness was just one of the many hundreds of volunteers
recruited to ensure that
the 2014 Commonwealth Games got off to a flying start.

For Kelly it was literally a dream come true as she had originally applied to be a ‘Clydesider’ but was asked to audition as a ceremony volunteer instead.

Having attended the Barrowlands Ballroom, Kelly was delighted when told she had been succesful and would work as a volunteer on both the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games.

The world watched on Wednesday evening as Kelly strode, head held high, into Celtic Park as a competitors’ marshall.

Her task was to ensure that those taking part in the 2014 Games were seated promptly and in the correct locations.

Kelly said: “It’s been hard work, and we’ve been practicing for four weeks now on a daily basis, even at weekends to make sure we got it right.

‘‘I’m pleased to say it went off like clockwork, so all that rehearsing was well worth it.

“This was very much a once-in-a-lifetime event, and I never for a moment expected to be taking such a prominent part in it.

‘‘I’m absolutely buzzing, it’s been an amazing
experience, and only my wedding in 2016 is likely to top that.”
