Linlithgow man fined for '˜mindless' street attack

A Linlithgow man has been fined for a 'mindless' early morning street attack in Bathgate.

James Simpson, 26, was sentenced in his absence at Livingston Sheriff Court today after he revealed he was now working in England.

Simpson, of Braehead Road, earlier pled guilty to punching Kieran Gregor on the head in Glasgow Road, Bathgate, on August 30 last year.

No motive was given for the 4am attack and Simpson made no reply to caution and charge.

Fining Simpson £350, Sheriff Martin Edington said he had quite a bad schedule of previous convictions.

He commented: “This was a mindless attack but there was no injury so a substantial fine should suffice.”

The court ordered Simpson to pay the fine in instalments of £10 a week.
